New Index added to the Local History Room

In our continued efforts to make resources more accessible for our patrons, the Local History Room is proud to announce the recent completion and cataloging of an index to A Pictorial History of the People of Lowndes County Mississippi.

Initially compiled onto index cards by Lida Logan, the index was transferred to an Excel spreadsheet and issued in book form by Local History Assistant Bettye Brown.

A Pictorial History of the People of Lowndes County Mississippi was written and compiled by the Lowndes County Department of Archives and History, which no longer exists.  Published in 1981, it depicts the history of Lowndes County through photographs.  While the original intent was to publish a four volume series, only 3,000 copies of volume one were ever printed.  The book contains 548 pages, 1500 pictures and approximately 9,000 people.

And now, it has an index!!

You can find the index to A Pictorial History of the People of Lowndes County Mississippi in the Local History Room with the call number CL 976.209 LOWNDES LOW INDEX.
