State takes over 4 Mississippi cemeteries

The Daily Journal
Tupelo, MS

JACKSON — Four Mississippi cemeteries badly in need of upkeep have been taken over by the secretary of state’s office.

The action was ordered in Prentiss County Chancery Court on Tuesday.

Chancellor John Hatcher appointed the secretary of state’s office as temporary overseer of four cemeteries owned by Don Middleton of Rogers Memorial Management LLC.

The four cemeteries are Prentiss Memorial Park in Baldwyn, Sunset Gardens Memorial Park in Laurel, Liberty Memorial Park in Booneville, and Pinecrest Memorial Park in Pittsboro.

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann has appointed someone to take over the day-to-day operations of the cemeteries and begin the complicated process of determining what funds are available to run the cemeteries.
