Hancock County Public Library Grand Reopening post Katrina

The Bay St. Louis-Hancock County Library will celebrate its formal reopening on January 29th at 4:00 PM. It suffered major damage due to the hurricane Katrina in 2005.

The new library is designed on a bookstore model and will soon have a café, a live artist’s performing area and a new glassed-in “Once Upon a Time in Bay St. Louis” children’s library, which was funded with a generous grant from the Foundation for the Mid-South.

The reopening will begin with a Katrina retrospective film, Mississippi Son, at 1 PM that afternoon. This deeply moving film traces the destruction of Katrina through the eyes of those who survived it. It will be followed by an update on the library construction projects that are ongoing.

At 3:20 there will be an after-school puppet show in the children’s library, followed by the ribbon-cutting at 4 PM.

Please come help celebrate the reopening of the Hancock County Public Library headquarters building.
