Index Completed for Book on Caledonia

The book “In the Beginning–‘Up Home’: A History of Caledonia, Lowndes County, Mississippi” is a wealth of information on the families and businesses that make up the long history of Caledonia.  The book, published in 2004, lacked an index, however, that would help patrons locate names in one of the few books on the people and places of that community.

This is no longer the case!

The staff of the Local History Department is pleased to announce the completion of an index to “In the Beginning–‘Up Home’: A History of Caledonia, Lowndes County, Mississippi”

Family names in the Index include Egger, Dowdle, Halbert, Lawrence, Molloy, Myers, Smith, Stanley, Ussery, Wells, and many more.

The Index also lists the many businesses and organizations that have flourished in Caledonia all the way up to the 21st century.  They include the Wholesale Electric Supply Co., Three Sisters Antiques, Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company, Shirley’s Beauty Salon, Monroe County Cotton Oil Company, and Harding Landscape and Design.

The book “In the Beginning” is located at both the Columbus branch and the Caledonia branch of the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library with the call number CL 976.209 LOWNDES EGG.  There will be two indexes, one at each branch, with the call number CL 976.209 LOWNDES EGG INDEX.
