1872 Account Book

The Columbus-Lowndes Public Library is pleased to announce the donation of an 1872 account book to the Billups-Garth Archives.

Once owned by J. L. Whitley and Naomi Farquhar, the book was donated by descendent Marion Whitley of New York City.

Most interestingly, the book contains advertisements for Columbus businesses. Business such as Atwater & Co. (below), R. W. Banks Warehouse, Gilmer Hotel, P. Galvin’s Saddle and Harnesses, Gid. D. Harris’ Boots & Shoes, Columbus Hotel & City Salon, and Goodrich & Street Druggists.

The account book is bound by leather and measures roughly 4″ x 6″ in size.

The exterior of the leather bound book is stamped with the names of two businesses:  “R. W. Banks, Warehouseman” and “Moore, Cox, and Lee: Groceries, Provisions, Staple Dry Good”.
