New Donation to the Archives

Several items were recently donated to the Billups-Garth Archives that showcase the theatrical history to Columbus past.  One item is a program for the production of “Mr. Roberts” at the Columbus Little Theater in 1953.  The Columbus Little Theater was located inside the Magnolia Building at 202 1/2 Fifth Street South. 

The program also includes a photograph on the back cover showcasing the cast members and includes names such as Thomas McCrary; Betty Kelly; John De Priest; and Hunter Eubanks, Jr.  The cast is dressed in their costumes from the play that is a comedy-drama that takes place on an American Naval cargo ship, the USS Reluctant, during the waning  days of World War II.

Another item is a program for the showing of “Don Q, Son of Zorro” at the Princess Theater around 1925. The donation also includes a photograph of the actor Douglas Fairbanks in his costume for “Don Q”.

Previous donations in this collection include two programs and one Alathean Sunday School class yearbook from the First Baptist Church from the 1940s.

These items are located in the Local History Department under the accession number 2011-21.
