Archivist attends Oral History Workshop

Archivist Mona K. Vance attended an Oral History workshop yesterday April 5th in Jackson at the Mississippi Department of Archives and History.

Hosted by the Archival Training Collaborative (ATC), the workshop invited current trainers with ATC to receive further experience in current practices with oral histories.  The goal is to have attendees return to their various cities throughout Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi and provide similar workshops in their local communities.

Louis M. Kyriakoudes, Associate Professor and Director of the Center for Oral History and Cultural Heritage at the University of Southern Mississippi, taught yesterday’s workshop. To learn more about the Center for Oral History visit

Vance said, “The workshop was a great opportunity to learn all about conducting oral histories so that I can implement such practices here in Lowndes County.  I hope to begin collecting more interviews as soon as possible.”
