The Columbus Sun newspaper donated to archives

Eighty issues of The Columbus Sun newspaper were recently donated to the Billups-Garth Archives.   The Columbus Sun was a local African American weekly paper that was published for over fifty years.

Established in 1952, the newspaper highlighted African American issues, events, celebrations, and businesses.  Owner and editor, Irene Richardson Hill, operated the newspaper at 115 Thirteenth Street South in Columbus.

This donation greatly expands the archives holdings on this newspaper.  Holdings now include issues from 1991 through 2000 with one issue from November 1962.

The archives is calling on anyone who might know of any earlier issues that exist.  Please help us save of our local history!
