Downtowner Motor Inn Postcard

The most recent postcard donated to the Billups-Garth Archives is of the Downtowner Motor Inn (now the Gilmer Inn) from the 1960s-70s.

On the back of the postcard, the motor inn boasts of containing “76 colorful guest rooms with hi-fi music and 5 channel TV.” It also had “free parking, free TWX [teletypwriter exchange service] reservation service, [a] swimming pool [and] sample rooms.” It also housed a “restaurant with superb dining and banquet facilities [as well as a] beauty salon adjoining [the] Motor Inn.”

This postcard has been added to MS 232 The Lowndes County Postcard Collection.

This collection will soon be available online through the Mississippi Digital Library.  Stay tuned!
