New Book on Columbus

There is a new book on Columbus history titled Columbus Chronicles: Tales from East Mississippi by local historian Rufus Ward.

Published by The History Press, the book is a collection of Ward’s weekly newspaper columns from the Commercial Dispatch called “Ask Rufus” where he recounts the development and progression of this city’s rich heritage.

The book includes photographs, images, drawings, and maps in addition to a wealth of textual information.

Rufus covers this area’s settlement, people, the Air Force Base, African American history, World War II, Native Americans, art, music, the Civil War, and much more.

As the back cover of the book states, “When folks have a question about the history of east Mississippi, they ask Rufus.”

One copy will be available for viewing in the Local History Department at the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library.
